Hospital hotels: patients to be cared for by family members under NHS cost-cutting plans

Innovation Unit's own Sarah Gillinson was invited by The Telegraph to comment on the news that patient hotels, based on an innovative model in Scandinavia, are being considered for the UK.

Patient hotels were designed, in Sweden in 1988, to offer patients with long term conditions and needed less high end care from professionals, an environment that was more conducive to recovery. The model not only has a positive impact on the well-being of patients but also reduces pressure on hospital services.

Our ideas around patient hotels were first published in our Radical Efficiency research report in 2010.

You can read Sarah's comments, and the rest of the article, written by Amy Willis, here.

We also covered Patient Hotels in our blog in 2011, which you can read here.
