I went along to the Healthcare Efficiency Through Technology Expo yesterday and manned the Innovation Unit's exhibiton stand. It proved to be a great chance to meet a variety of practitioners and providers in the field. It gave me the opportunity to talk about some of the exciting things happening in the six People Powered Health sites and see some of the exciting technological solutions being created to solve the problem of increasing demand in the NHS.
Our senior service designer Aviv Katz spoke at the event about co-production - the idea that people’s needs are better met when they are involved in an equal and reciprocal relationship with professionals, working together to get things done. Using the example of our work in Lambeth with the Lambeth Living Well Collaborative, he explained why co-production is so powerful, what the barriers and enablers are to delivering it, and how it works in practice.
