Measurement

Despite some notable exceptions and considerable effort, many public sector organisations struggle to innovate. The public sector needs to be more systematic and disciplined in how it manages innovation and how it approaches innovation challenges. Measuring innovation is an important first step in this direction. Innovation measurement improves the management of innovation and its contribution to economic and social wellbeing through creating better services and increasing value for money.

When we work with organisations we assess their current innovation activity, capacity and capability. Understanding the culture is vital for organisations that are looking to use innovation to improve services.

As well as measuring innovation within organisations we also allow them to benchmark themselves against other organisations helping creating a map of where innovation is happening in public services. We can also measure the results of innovation against national policy imperatives and local priorities, helping organisations to be more strategic.

The information allows us to uncover areas of strength, as well as areas of weakness and identify barriers and challenges to innovation in organisations. We also generate recommendations as to how organisations can become more innovative over time, helping them build innovation capability within and rely less on outside support.
