Amber Barrow
Project Coordinator and Researcher
Amber joined Innovation Unit as our Project Coordinator and Researcher in April 2024. They are passionate about community-led change that challenges the root causes of structural inequalities. In particular, Amber is committed to capturing the complexity of lived experiences through principles of intersectionality and considering how inclusion can most meaningfully be embedded whilst tackling social inequalities.
Amber is currently working on our GM Leadership and Climate Justice projects. She is an experienced workshop facilitator and a keen communicator who enjoys finding creative ways to engage and educate people. Amber’s experience in grassroots organising and understanding of the practical challenges to project delivery will inform their contributions at Innovation Unit through a commitment to considering lived experience, cultural sensitivity and barriers to access. With a background in social justice education work, Amber is excited to support IU’s service design process to centre our core principles of access and inclusion.
Amber’s previous work includes founding the Collective Futures Project to deliver social justice & inclusion workshops to students across the UK as part of their PSHE curriculum. They have also worked with the education charity, The Tutor Trust, delivering tuition to disadvantaged pupils across Manchester as part of the National Tutoring Programme. Amber’s academic background is in History, in which she studied the postcolonial context for Nigeria’s recent criminalisation of homosexuality for her undergraduate dissertation.
